There are a wide variety of artists on Etsy. Natasha at LuxArt has one of the most unique processes for creating her artwork I’ve seen thus far. She works in pitch black using light beams. What looks like a beautiful painting is actually created using light as the paint and paint brush. Birds, trees and nature seem to be a recurrent theme amongst her outstanding works of art. It’s truly some of the best work I’ve seen in years.

Brief background:
Natasha Bacca is 29 and a Leo from Oregon.

When did you start creating art?
I began art studies at a young age, and have been experimenting with art processes and media ever since. My artistic endeavors continued throughout my university years while I obtained an Associate’s Degree in Photography, a Bachelor’s Degree in Art, and a Master’s Degree in Education with Art Credential.

You’ve got a pretty unique medium for creating your artwork. How did you come about using the light process?
During the time I was pursuing my photography based art degree I witnessed meteoric changes within the photographic world. While the once commanding darkroom was being replaced by the newest computer lab, prosperous photography businesses were closing their doors forever. I both embraced and questioned the digital world photography was being assimilated into. I delved further into the basic concepts of photography; where it came from, what it meant, and where it was going. Pondering the root words photo meaning light and graph meaning to write, I began exploring the concept of literally writing with light. I developed various methods of painting using light on photosensitive paper, and designed a tool for this purpose. A US patent is pending for both the tool and process by which I create.

If you had to describe your art in three words, what would they be?
Unique, vibrant, fun!

If you could learn any skill, what would it be and why?
I would learn to ski and snow board. I live next to one of the best mountains for these sports (Mt. Bachelor) and my husband and friends enjoy it, yet I am not skilled enough at it to truly enjoy it.

How often do you check your Etsy?
Daily (unless on holiday).

What inspires you to create a piece of art on a particular subject?
I am most inspired by the lines, shapes, and forms I can create with light. Color is always at the forefront of the creation, but subjects can emerge as the process is not completely predictable.

Are there any artists that inspire you, and how?
I am inspired by many artists, but Adam Fuss, Man Ray, and László Moholy-Nagy are 3 artists I find inspiring in their unconventional uses of light as an art medium.
